Description:
An oval plinth in Ashlar Portland Limestone was required to hold a memorial Aircraft Carrier.
Details:
This particular project evolved following a previous employment for supplying shaped Portland stone. Presented with a pencil sketch of the plinth the artist, Steve Field, was trying to achieve, this was then converted into working drawings using computer aided design.
The oval area was divided into shaped sectons to enable for safe handling, with each individual shape having v-grooves cut into them to give the appearance of waves running off the bow of an Aircraft Carrier. Each slab from the main drawing was plotted out as a template for the masons to work on, while engraving work was out-sourced.
